An accomplished capital project manager and consultant in the Asset Management industry since 2004, Esteban Alejandro Cruz has been engaged primarily in international practice for investment clients in real assets, and directly responsible for multi-million euro execution phase projects and budgets in various sectors such as luxury real estate, hospitality, office, retail, industrial, and alternative energy.  Before his role in the asset management industry, Esteban pursued projects since 1996 in the fields of architecture, historic preservation, cultural heritage, museology and engineering both in Europe and the USA after having studied architecture and historic preservation in Florence & Venice, Italy, and California. As a result of this experience, Esteban was able to work and live in some of the most artistic and historic locations in Italy: the centres of the Veneto Region and Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, and Rome and the Lazio region.

He holds a Masters in Business Administration from Hult International Business School in London (UK) and a degree in Architecture from the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo (USA), with post-graduate studies at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura Venezia (I.U.A.V.) in Venice, Italy.

Aside from practice, Esteban was also engaged along the years in numerous cultural heritage projects in Europe as a parallel activity to his management practice. These activities started very early in his career while still working in conservation and cultural heritage. As a result, he received full membership at the International Council of Musuems (ICOM) for his earlier work in museum exhibit design & planning, art & architecture history, in addition to his endeavours in Renaissance and Classical studies with the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili.

His interest in history and computers started in 1998 as design consultant for the development of a prototype virtual museum (N.u.M.E.), for the historic city center of Bologna, Italy. Coordinated by the University of Bologna, this project involved historic re-constructions of important monumental areas of the city from the XII to the XVII centuries. Results were based on surveys, and an accurate study of a historic document: the Liber Terminorum of 1294. His work was displayed for the first time at the international conference of IT and computer innovation, SIGGRAPH 1999 in Los Angeles. This and other contributions to the fields of Historic and Cultural Heritage, has lead Esteban to be an active member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

 

His research activities specifically dealing with the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili began in 1995 while still as an undergraduate. Since then, he is continuously active in developing graphical reconstructions that “illustrate” the architecture and landscapes encrypted in this Renaissance text. Esteban’s research was published for the first time in 2006, with approximately 50 original color reconstructions. In addition to research activities, he has also given lectures, and has been invited to participate at conferences at universities in Italy regarding the architecture of the Hypernerotomachia.

Esteban is a member of the International Council of Museums, in addition to being an associate member of both the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI). He is married and lives between San Francisco, California, London and Milan, Italy.
